Eyesalve: You Have To Listen
“Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. 40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Lk. 10:38-42
A precious brother from our church named Randy has been reminding me and others that God isn’t so much looking for ability as He is looking for availability. The other day at morning prayer, he was praying that we would make ourselves available to God. While he was praying I envisioned the scene in my mind of Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus while Martha is out in the kitchen bagging around with the dishes. Mary had her full attention on the Lord while Martha is only half listening if listening at all. Then I envisioned Mary getting up to go do something that Jesus told her to do while Martha was to busy doing her own thing and missed hearing what Jesus commanded. Saint, you can be busy doing something for God that He never asked you to do. If you want to really serve our Master, then start out by sitting at His feet.

amen: I repent of my own thing, from the feet of Jesus I join with Mary the charge of the Lord.
