Eyesalve: Be An Encourager

By | Eyesalve

And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.” I Sam. 23:16

Jonathon was a warrior for the kingdom of God. One time Jonathon, with his armor bearer, went and slew 20 Philistines. Jonathon was also sensitive to the will of God and knew one day that David would be king. Instead of being jealous over David he loved and supported David, even when his father Saul was hunting him down. Jonathon’s life was cut short because of his backslidden father’s poor leadership, but there is one great thing that he did before he was killed in battle. He went to David who was hiding out in the wilderness and encouraged him. He “strengthened his hand in God.” David did go on to be king. Jonathon’s encouragement lived on in David. I want to be an encourager, how about you?

Eyesalve: Lament

By | Eyesalve

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, wherewith the LORD hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. 13From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day.” Lam 1:12-13

Jeremiah lamented over Jerusalem which was once full of people, but became a widow. He lamented over Judah who had gone into captivity. He had such a deep grief in his heart that he is called the weeping prophet. This sorrow he experienced was above human sorrow. This sorrow came from the Lord. For the most part we understand there is a love beyond human proportions. It is a supernatural love that can only come from God. Have you ever asked God to grant you to love as He loves? There is also a sorrow of supernatural proportions. A sorrow God has for His lukewarm and backslidden church. I have not been so quick to ask God to grant this sorrow to me. I need to ask Him, you need to ask Him. God, give us a burden for your church, one that keeps us in the altar of prayer for your people. Let us feel what you feel. Amen!

Eyesalve: Exempt and Liberated

By | Eyesalve

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jn. 8:32

The phrase, “shall make you free,” comes from two Greek words, eleutheroō and humas. Eleutheroō means to liberate and exempt. So the truth does these two things, it exempts from the penalty of sin and then it liberates from a continued life of sin. The word humas means you. Yes, the truth exempts and liberates YOU. Hallelujah, me too!

Eyesalve: Know Truth Now

By | Eyesalve

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jn. 8:32

There is a time coming when the truth will no longer set people free but result in damnation. Praise the Lord that you know the truth now.

Eyesalve: Understand Love, Understand God

By | Eyesalve

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” I Jn. 4:8

As eternal and infinite and unsearchable as God is, aren’t you glad that He explains Himself as love? You can lack intelligence and not even know how to read, but you can still know what love is. If you know what love is then you have the capacity to have a simple understanding of God.

Eyesalve: The Whole Message of Love

By | Eyesalve

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Dt. 6:4-5

A Christian said to a pastor friend of mine that there is too much preaching about love today. In response, my friend said, “You can never preach too much about love.” I have to agree with him, for God is love. The problem isn’t too many sermons about love; it is sermons preached without love. Another problem is sermons that only preach about the love God has for us and not challenging the church to love God with all their heart, soul and might. The whole message of love must be preached, and it will be, if love for God dominates the preacher.

Eyesalve: Don’t Fear Man

By | Eyesalve

Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die. 25But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee:” Jer. 38:24-25

King Zedekiah was in a tough situation. He wanted to hear what the Lord had to say through Jeremiah the prophet, but he also didn’t want to the princes to know. He didn’t want to offend them. The real problem with Zedekiah is that he feared man more then he feared God. Once that happens to a preacher, his ministry is done, unless he repents of course. Once any believer fears man above God, they will live a life of fear. Unless the man fearing believer repents they will end up like Zedekiah. “Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon” (Jeremiah 39:7).

Eyesalve: Pray They Wake Up

By | Eyesalve

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. 17And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.” Gen. 28:16-18

Jacob went to sleep one night and woke up the next morning saying, “Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.” He went on to say, “this is none other but the house of God.” Today, there are millions of people that grew up in church and in the presence of the Lord, but they never quite seem to know it. They have grown numb to the word of God and His presence around them. So saints of God, we must pray for them; we must pray for our children that grow up in our churches. Pray that one day they too will wake up and say, “Surely the LORD’S presence has been with me, How did I not know it?”

Eyesalve: Thus They Invented

By | Eyesalve

“For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.” Jer. 10:21

Pastors that do not seek the Lord will not have spiritual prosperity and success, thus they invented the seeker sensitive, easy believism gospel and found worldly success.

Eyesalve: Wherefore Dids’t Thou Doubt

By | Eyesalve

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” Mat. 14:28-31

We have a lot of doubters in the church today; maybe even to epidemic proportions. Though they may believe Jesus exists, they don’t believe His word and they haven’t put their trust in Him. Peter didn’t doubt one bit that Jesus existed, yet Jesus rebuked Peter for his lack of faith and asked him, “wherefore didst thou doubt?”
