EYE SALVE

“…Anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” Revelation 3:18

A Daily Devotional by Pastor Terry Fischer

Eye Salve is a short devotional that Pastor Terry Fischer writes regularly to challenge and encourage the saints of God.

It is meant to be short and sweet and comes from his daily reading and prayer.

Slain in the House

By | Eyesalve

But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.” II Kings 11:15

I suppose Jehoiada did not want Athaliah, who took it upon herself to be king, to be killed in the house of the Lord because it is a place of life for mankind, not a place of death. I wonder how many of our churches today have become more of a place of death for people instead of life. We need the Spirit to be in our churches if life is to be offered, otherwise people are just being “slain in the house of God.”

Exhorted to Trust God

By | Eyesalve

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?” II kings 5:13

One of the most valuable things about belonging to a loving fellowship of believers, is that there are those there who will encourage you when you have moments of doubt. If Naaman’s servant could convince him to trust what the prophet said, how much more should we be encouraged by the brethren who exhort us to trust God?

Shut the Door

By | Eyesalve

“So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.” II Kings 4:5

If you want the oil to flow you must shut the door on this world and shut yourself in with God.

Is There Not A God?

By | Eyesalve

And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.” II kings 1:6

Though it may not be Baalzebub that you turn to, anytime you turn to any other source, be it people, programs, resources and such, instead of God, it could be asked; “Is it not because there is not a God” in America? Is not Almighty God the source of all your needs?

Other Than Yourself

By | Eyesalve

For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.” Hebrews 7:26-27

According to the law of the Levitical priesthood, the priest was to offer a lamb first for his sins and then for the sins of the people. Not so with Jesus; First of all He needed not a sacrifice for His sins because He had no sin. Second, He did not offer a lamb, He offered Himself. Jesus set the example. God is not fooled if you try to offer Him something other than yourself.

About Time

By | Eyesalve

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,  2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-2

Let me paraphrase what is being said here. “Don’t you think it is about time you grow up?”

Living The Truth

By | Eyesalve

“Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” I Timothy 4:3

There has been a growing movement in our day called the “Hebrew Roots Movement.” It is Christians who are incorporating some of the Old Testament law into their Christianity. One of those laws being not eating certain meat like pork. I guess by keeping some of these rules they feel they are living a deeper committed life to the Lord. But isn’t the deeper committed life believing and knowing the truth? It is living the truth that pleases God. Do not be fooled by this movement if it comes your way.

It’s The Spirit Who Speaks

By | Eyesalve

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; I Timothy 4:1

Sometimes we forget that whenever someone, whether in the Old or New Testament, prophesied and spoke of something happening in the future, it was the Spirit of God who spoke it.
