Eyesalve: Shadow or Light?

By | Eyesalve

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” Col. 2:16-17

The Old Testament is a shadow of things to come. The New Testament is the revealing of that shadow who is Christ. When men go on to practice the ceremonial laws and regulations they are choosing to live in the shadow of Christ. Now why would anyone want to live in His shadow when they can live being part of His body? Don’t walk in the shadow, walk in the light.

Eyesalve: Hid in Christ

By | Eyesalve

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col. 2:3

If “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” are hid in Christ, why would we look anywhere else?

Eyesalve: Teaching Every Man

By | Eyesalve

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:” Col. 1:27-28

It was Paul’s great desire to present believers “perfect in Christ Jesus.” Though most Christians do not have a call to shepherd God’s flock, each of us should have the same desire toward one another, to see each other presented perfect in Christ. We all, whether ministers or not, can participate in this work of perfecting others. How? Preach Jesus Christ. Preach Him by living for Him, preach Him by letting Him be seen in your life.

Eyesalve: Bundle of Life

By | Eyesalve

I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days. 29Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.” I Sam 25:28-29

If you take some things and put them together, you have what is called a bundle. You take people full of the life of God and you put them together, you have what is called the church “the bundle of life

Eyesalve: Don’t Cause Distress

By | Eyesalve

And the men of Israel were distressed that day, for Saul had placed the people under oath, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.” I Sam. 14:24

In the previous chapter we learned that Saul’s kingdom would not continue because he did a foolish thing. Many times it happens when ministers lose their anointing from God, they gravitate toward extreme religious rules. At the least appropriate time, Saul did that and called for a fast. Fasting is important, no doubt, when it is led of the Lord. It is apparent that he was not led of the Lord to do this. He attempted to compensate for losing God’s favor by impressing others with a false spiritual fervor. He did what the religious do, he “placed the people under oath.” All that this did was put the people in distress. Let it be that your commitment to God will promote in others a liberty with a greater desire for God, not a commitment to your rules that cause distress in others.

Eyesalve: Will He Find You

By | Eyesalve

And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.”” I Sam. 13:13-14

When spiritual leadership fails all around you and the Lord goes looking for others who have a heart after God’s own heart, will He find you?

Eyesalve: An Incorruptible Crown

By | Eyesalve

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.” I Cor. 9:25

Tell those who are competing in the Olympics that they do not need to train so hard. Tell them they don’t need to push themselves to the limit and don’t need to deny themselves certain foods and drinks. They may say, I know I don’t have to do these things, but if I have any hope of winning the completion I must. Today, if a Christian practices such self-control he is called a legalist. If the athlete practices such self-control for a trinket of gold, how much more should we practice discipline and self-control, for we obtain an incorruptible crown.
