EYE SALVE

“…Anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” Revelation 3:18

A Daily Devotional by Pastor Terry Fischer

Eye Salve is a short devotional that Pastor Terry Fischer writes regularly to challenge and encourage the saints of God.

It is meant to be short and sweet and comes from his daily reading and prayer.

Let God’s Presence Return

By | Eyesalve

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. 7And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.” I Samuel 5:6-7

The ark of God represents the presence of God. Israel lost the presence of God when the Philistines captured the ark of God. Just like today, the presence of God is gone from many of our churches. However, that does not mean that God is not at work. He dealt with those Philistines while they had possession of the ark. God was still at work revealing Himself to the lost. Let’s pray that the presence of the Lord will return to our churches so God can use us to reveal Himself to the world.

Good Teaching

By | Eyesalve

“Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.” I Samuel 3:9-10

Even an old backslidden priest can teach someone how to serve God. Eli instructed Samuel that when he hears his name called again say, “Speak, Lord; for thy servant hears.” That is some good teaching.

Be Foolish

By | Eyesalve

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.” I Corinthians 1:27-28

It is very hard for any of us believers to confound this world if we are to ashamed to suffer the humiliation of being foolish and being despised.

Give the Things of God

By | Eyesalve

And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.” I Samuel 1:4-5

Several other versions use the words double portion instead of worthy portion. Elkanah tried to satisfy his wife Hannah by giving her a double portion. But that didn’t satisfy her. So often men try to satisfy the needs that some people have by giving them a double portion of this world’s goods. But it never satisfies them because what they really need and want, only the Lord can give. Let us be givers of the things of God.

Fulfilling the Scriptures

By | Eyesalve

“And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” Luke 4:21

The Bible must be more than just a manual that teaches us about God and how to be like Jesus. The scriptures must be more than something we read and obey. They must be fulfilled in our life. When you find yourself unconsciously living out the word of God; when you find your reactions being righteous; when you can’t help but to respond to people in love, then you can know the scriptures are something more than what you read, but something that is being fulfilled in your life.

He Might Tell You

By | Eyesalve

“And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.” Acts 9:6

Make sure if you ask the Lord what He would have you to do, that you really want to know because He might tell you and then you have to obey.

The Resurrection Must Be Preached

By | Eyesalve

“Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Acts 2:24, 32

Twice in Peter’s less than three minute sermon, he mentioned the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is a theme that has been forgotten today by some of those who share the gospel with the lost. I believe I could say, if the resurrection is not preached, then the gospel is not being preached.

It Affected Other Graves

By | Eyesalve

“And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Matthew 27:52-53

Jesus’ being raised from the dead had so much power that it affected other graves around the area.
