born again

Membership

By | Eyesalve

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” I Corinthians 12:27

You aren’t a member of the body of Christ because you filled out a membership form and it was voted on by a panel and accepted. You don’t automatically become a member under a family membership plan. You have to be born again to be a member. The instant you are born again you become a member. You are born a member.

Eyesalve: Jesus is Our Righteousness

By | Eyesalve

When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and dies in it, it is because of the iniquity which he has done that he dies.” Ezekiel 18:26

How does this apply to the born again believer? To turn away from Jesus, who is our righteousness, is when a believer falls back into sin.

Eyesalve: Members In Particular

By | Eyesalve

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” I Corinthians 12:27

As a pastor, I have a whole different approach to church membership then what is common today. In many churches today, you have to fill out an application of sorts and submit it for approval. You have to agree with the tenants of faith of that particular church and any other rules or guidelines they have established. When I am asked about being a member of the church that I pastor, I tell the one inquiring that they are a member when they say they are. What I mean by that is first, to be a member of any Christian church, you have to be born again. Once you are born again you instantly become a member of the body of Christ. So when a true believer attends our church and they determine that God is with us and they want to commit themselves to our fellowship of believers, then they are a member. Who am I to tell a member of the body of Christ that they are not a member? When many churches make others strive to be a member, I strive to remind them they are a member and help keep them participating as a member. Don’t forget, if you are born again, you too are a member of the body of Christ and you better take that serious.

You Must Be Born Again

By | Articles

The most deceived people on the face of the earth

are those who think they are saved, but are not.

There is a huge difference between people who believe they are born

again because someone told them they were and those who know

they are born again because they experienced the new birth.

A person who is lost in their sin and knows it, has a much higher percentage of getting saved than the person who thinks they are saved, but has never been born again. A person who gets comfortable in their religion or their status in the church would have no reason to call on the Lord to save them. They think that everything is just fine. It is the person who is drowning who calls for the lifeguard. Even more difficult is for a minister who is not born again to get saved. The ministers that have committed their life to serve the Lord in the ministry would be the least likely to ever ask themselves if they have ever really been born again. Besides that, who would ever confront a minister about his need for salvation? Do not be mistaken there are many unsaved ministers. I trust that yours is born again.

It seems to me that so many in the church, especially when it comes to soul winning, have forgotten what Jesus said.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3:3-7).

Nothing has changed since the days Jesus spoke these words to Nicodemus. Though man has tried to ignore, rephrase or redefine the whole concept (more than a concept) of being born again, it still stands true today; you must be born again to enter the kingdom of God. By the way, it is not a future kingdom, it is a kingdom you enter the instant you are born again. Jesus said, “..the kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21).

I have encountered many people who claim to be a Christian. Some of them are and some aren’t. Mind you, I am not the final judge of that as you know, neither are you. Some believers fear the thought of even trying to discern if someone is truly saved. Let me put you at ease, God will not be checking with me or you about another person’s salvation. However, the Bible teaches us that we can know a tree by its fruit. So when I encounter a person who claims to be a Christian, but there is much in their life that would testify contrary to that, (if I get a chance to,) I will ask them when they were born again. Some of their answers are, “I was a Christian my whole life,” or, “I became a Christian when I was baptized.” Millions of people have been told they are a Christian because they repeated the sinner’s prayer. Some churches teach that you are born again when you get confirmed. I was raised in the Roman Catholic church and I never even heard about being born again until I was in my twenties and it wasn’t the Catholic church that told me about it either. Nonetheless, at twenty seven years of age, married with three children, I was born again. I was made a brand new creature in an instant. It was something that happened on the inside of me. I can’t explain it, in fact no one can explain it, for it is something you just know when it happens to you. Jesus described it this way:

“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).

What Jesus is teaching is that you can’t see the wind, but you can hear and feel the effects of it. When someone is born again, the Holy Wind who you cannot see, enters that person and causes them to be born of the Spirit.

Think how radical it is for a baby when it is born. It leaves the warm sheltered confines of a mother’s womb and is brought out into a whole different environment than what it was used to for the last nine months. The baby does not have the capacity to understand what happened to it, but it does know that something happened. So too, with a person who is born again, they know something has happened to them even though they do not have the words or understanding to explain it. It doesn’t take long for the real believer to realize what happened to them, they became a born again believer.

I fear for many that their salvation rests in having correct theological understanding of salvation. They believe all the doctrines that they are supposed to believe such as, the word of God is infallible, all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and Jesus is the only way to the Father. In fact, they can have those famous salvation scriptures memorized such as:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).

and still not be born again. I fear many find the confidence of their salvation in their church. They believe they are saved because they attend church regularly, listen to the sermon, pay their tithes and try to live a moral life. Hell is filled with Bible reading church attenders. Going to church makes you no more a Christian than walking into the courthouse makes you a judge.

Then there are those who believe they are saved because mom and dad are, or grandma and grandpa are. Some children grow up convinced they are saved because their dad is the pastor. But no one, I repeat, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they personally are born again.

Salvation is a miracle. Every real Christian starts out as a miracle. Salvation is radical, it offends every part of your carnal nature, but is sweet to your soul. Salvation isn’t just a changing of your mind, it is powerful transformation. It takes those who have used their body to fulfill all kinds of sinful lusts and turns them into a temple for God to live in. Hallelujah!

Are you a living miracle? Are you truly born again? If not, humble yourself before Almighty God, repent of your sins, surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ and trust Him with your life.

Eyesalve: Then You Will See

By | Eyesalve

There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jn. 3:1-3

Nicodemus thought he understood something about Jesus. He thought he saw something about Jesus when he realized that He could not do those miracles unless He was sent from God. But Jesus said you cannot see anything pertaining to the kingdom until you are born again. You can understand something with the intellect and see something with natural understanding, but is not the same as seeing when you are born again. When you are born again you can see the kingdom now.

Eyesalve: Are You Departing?

By | Eyesalve

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” I Tim. 4:1

Only those who are born again through faith can depart from faith. We believers are warned, that in these last days, there will be Christians who will depart from faith in God. There is not one of us reading this that is beyond falling away. May I encourage you all to strengthen your walk in the Lord? Following are signs that may indicate you are in the process of departing from the faith or already have.

  1. If your love for God has cooled, and you are subtly leaving your first love.

Eyesalve: Love Fervently

By | Eyesalve

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.” I pe. 1:22-23

Verse 22 says, “love one another with a pure heart fervently.” Verse 23 follows that demand by reiterating that we are born again by an incorruptible seed. The kind of love, “with a pure heart fervently,” is impossible for anyone to do unless they are born again. If you have a hard time loving the brethren from a pure heart and with fervency more than likely it is because you have not really been born again.

Eyesalve: Obey The truth

By | Eyesalve

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.” I Pe. 1:22-23

Christ only, can justify us before God, but when it comes to purifying our soul, it is our responsibility. We purify our souls by obeying the truth. Of course, we cannot do this without the Spirit’s help. Since we have His help, let’s obey the truth and walk in purity.

The Church

By | Articles

There are quite a few believers today that have developed a bad taste for, and even a bitter attitude toward the church of Jesus Christ. Though it is wrong to have such feelings, I can understand why some do. They have been let down by the less than Christian antics that go on in the church. Combine that with the division and lack of power in the church, it can leave saints fed up with the whole “church thing.” No matter how justified a Christian may feel about their bad attitude toward the church, the church is still Christ’s anointed vessel that He left with the commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

For many people, the first thought that comes to their minds when they hear the word “church” is of a building with four walls and a steeple with a cross on it. That is what is called a church building, but what is in that building is really what determines if it is a church. The building can be filled with religious people, and not be a real church. It can even be filled with people that proclaim some kind of allegiance to Christ, and still not be a real church. The church, by biblical definition, is a people, a called out people; called out from darkness into His marvelous light. It is a gathering of true born again believers.

You may be surprised to know that the word “church(es)” is found 114 times in the New Testament. The first time the church is mentioned is by Jesus in Mt. 16:18. It is there that Jesus says, “..I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” How it must offend Jesus for any Christian to have a bad attitude against His church that He is still building. If you are in, or were a part of a church that Christ is not allowed to do the building, then I can understand your frustration, but that does not give any Christian a right to be angry with Christ’s church. Be mad at the devil and the religious crowd if you will, but love the church of Jesus Christ.

It was the church that the Lord added to daily; it was the church that great persecution came against; it was the church that prayed unceasing for Peter when he was in prison. There were prophets and teachers in the church; elders were ordained in every church. Paul told the elders from Ephesus to, “feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood” (Acts 20:28). Did you get that? Jesus purchased the church with His own blood! It was in the church that God set first apostles, second prophets and third teachers. We are to seek to excel in the gifts to edify the church. Christ loves the church and is looking for a glorious church. Jesus is the head of the body, which is the church.  The church of the living God is the pillar and ground of the truth. The seven letters John wrote were to the seven churches in Asia. Yes, the church is God’s chosen vessel. “Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus,,,” (Eph. 3:21).  Jesus is not done with His church yet, and neither should you be.

A few years back we were told by a false prophet named Harold Camping that the Lord was going to come on a certain date. I forgot the date, probably because I paid no attention to it. As you can see, the Lord did not come.  This man has been telling Christians for years to leave the churches. If he would be talking about the dead Spirit grieving churches, I couldn’t agree with him more. However, his message is that God is no longer in the church, so you should get out. Now where does he get off saying such a thing? If the church is the body of Christ, and Jesus is the head, how could a real believer leave the church or the body of Christ? Wouldn’t that be like your arm deciding it didn’t want to be a part of your body anymore? You can live without your arm, but your arm cannot live without being attached to your body. If it is the church that the gates of hell will not prevail against, why on earth would I want to leave her? Why would I want to get out there like a stray sheep and subject myself to danger? Like it or not, we are still in the church age. We are still a people that need to assemble together. It only takes two people that come together in the name of the Lord to produce a church. If that was all the bigger the church was – two saints of God – the devil would still not be able to prevail against it. That is because the church is that vessel that Christ ordained to give glory to God. We are not to be angry with the church, and we are not to avoid the church. We are to find the real church, unite with it and give glory to God. We are to love and edify the church.

Saint of God, whether you are one that is frustrated with the church or not, whether you quit going to church or not, be encouraged. One more time the Lord is going to pour out His Spirit on the church. There is yet to be a latter rain that will fall. God is going to bring a distinction between the true and the false church; He is going to baptize His true church with power. There will be an increased love for the brethren and a unity that is of the Spirit.

The Lord has put a vision in my heart a few years ago to believe God and pray for a uniting of the remnant believers all over the state of Wisconsin, and to see the power return to the church, the true church. God will yet, have a church in this generation that will once again be a vessel that will impact our society and bring glory to God. Will you pray with me, will you believe with me? God bless you.
