Tell them they don’t need to push themselves to the limit and don’t need to deny themselves certain foods and drinks. They may say, I know I don’t have to do these things, but if I have any hope of winning the completion I must. Today, if a Christian practices such self-control he is called a legalist. If the athlete practices such self-control for a trinket of gold, how much more should we practice discipline and self-control, for we obtain an incorruptible crown.
