Eyesalve: Your Face May Not Glow

By | Eyesalve

And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 30And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.” Ex. 34:29-30

If you spend a great deal of time in the presence of the Lord, you may not walk away with a glowing face (though you could), but you will have a glowing heart. Just as the children of Israel were affected by a man who talked to the Lord, this world can yet be impacted by a God seeking people. One of the easiest ways to fit in with the worldly crowd is to refrain from a prayer life, but if you are fervent in prayer, though your face may not glow, people will know there is something different about you.

Eyesalve: Taking Advantage of Grace

By | Eyesalve

And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. 13Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.” Ex. 33:12-13

Moses is reminding God of the grace that he has shed on him. You could say that Moses is taking advantage of the grace of God, he is using it to move the heart of God. However, Moses is not taking advantage of grace like some do and think it is a permission to sin, he is pleading God’s grace for three reasons.

1. That God would show Moses the way.
2. That He might know Him more.
3. That God would have mercy on the nation of Israel.

Eyesalve: Appreciate The Elders

By | Eyesalve

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” I Pe. 5:5

There is something very wonderful happening at the church I pastor. First I will say that we are very blessed to have a good group of elder men (fathers) in our church that love God and are mature in the things of God. We also have a good group of young zealous men (sons) that want to follow after and know God more intimately. I am seeing something, I believe I have never seen really work like it should, happening amongst our brethren. The young men have come to a place that they see the elder men as a real blessing and encouragement in their life. The elder are to teach the younger, but sometimes it takes a while for the younger believers to discover the value that older saints of God can be in their life. Sometimes there is a shortage of godly elderly saints, and sometimes young believers are too proud to receive any wisdom and direction from others. There is often a lack of understanding from the church in general that we are a family and we should not be divided up into age groups and encourage generation gaps. But, when it is working like it should, it is a beautiful thing to be a part of. For the younger to submit to the elder is not meant for control, but for spiritual growth and blessing.

Eyesalve: Put On Christ

By | Eyesalve

“And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. 3And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. 4And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.”Ex. 28:2-4

It was quite a big deal, the making of all the priestly garb which the Old Testament priests were to wear. The rest of chapter 28 goes into a great detail about these priestly garments. It tells us what kind of material to use, what color, the size and other things. I am sure glad that God made it much simpler in our generation. We are to put on Christ. Hallelujah.

Eyesalve: There Are Three

By | Eyesalve

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” I Jn. 5:7

The word of God can often be logical, but sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes you can strengthen a doctrine by adding logic and sometimes you can’t. There was a man I got to know over 30 years ago who belonged to a church that denied the triune God. Their doctrine is usually referred to as Jesus only or the oneness doctrine. Their church affiliation is usually labeled as apostolic or United Pentecostal. Anyway, this man tried to use logic on me to try to convince me that Jesus and the Father are one. So he asked me if I am a son, and of course I confirmed that I was. Then he asked me if I was a father, and since I had three sons, I confirmed that as well. So he said the same thing with the Father and the Son, they are just one person. Well, being young in the Lord I was still not persuaded by this argument. Let’s use his point of logic for a minute. I am a son, because I have a father. I am a father because I have a son. It takes three people for this to happen, my dad, me and my first born son. This man’s logic actually supports the trinity more than it does oneness. Yes, there are three that bear witness in heaven.

Eyesalve: Will They Ask, What is This?

By | Eyesalve

And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:” Ex. 13:14

Saints, don’t live in complacent Christianity, your children will just yawn. Believe for God to do something great in your life, so your children can ask you in time to come, “what is this?” Then you will be able to answer, by great strength God delivered me from bondage and performed all these wonderful things you see my children.

Eyesalve: He Will Make You Different

By | Eyesalve

“But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.” Ex. 11:7

Just as the Lord put a difference between Egypt and Israel, He puts a difference between the world and the church, the sinner and the saint. Will you let Him do that distinguishing work in your life? Will you let Him make you different from the citizens of this world?

Eyesalve: Rod of God

By | Eyesalve

“And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.” Ex. 4:20

In the backside of the wilderness, the stick in Moses hand was a staff for shepherding sheep. When the call of God came upon Moses, that staff became the rod of God. If a mere shepherds staff can become the rod of God, imagine what you could become for God.

Eyesalve: A Greater Savior

By | Eyesalve

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Mt. 1:21

Borrowing from my good minister friend Lee Shipp, “Jesus is a greater savior, than man is a sinner.”

Eyesalve: Tree Huggers

By | Eyesalve

“And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. 20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.” Mt. 21:19-21

Jesus said that if we have faith we too could curse the fig tree and it would wither. Why would I want to curse a fig tree anyway? When you consider the fig tree represents Israel, which is a type of church, and the lack of figs signifies a lack of fruit, then we can understand that we can and should curse unfruitful religion. No loving Christian wants to curse anyone or anything, but considering the carnal state of much of the church, it seems few have risen up in our generation to curse the unfruitful religion we have. In fact it seems we may have more tree huggers than cursers.
